Round Up
Round Up is the most widely used weed killer around the world. The herbicide was created in 1970, and it can be found in almost every garden shed and garage. The product was originally created for small-scale use, but in the 90’s, farmers began applying the product to entire fields.
In recent years, Monsanto, the company that created the product, has been the subject of thousands of lawsuits involving Round Up. It’s been claimed that an active ingredient in the product can cause numerous forms of cancer. If you believe your cancer diagnoses is related to Round Up exposure, you may have the right to compensation.

Does Round Up Cause Cancer?
The International Agency for Research on Cancer found a potential link between an active ingredient in Round Up, glyphosate, and cancer. This warning came after the IARC found the chemical in samples of farmer’s urine and blood and chromosome damage in cells. The research agency also found tumor formation in lab animals.
Monsanto lost patent rights to glyphosate in 2000. As a result, over 750 herbicides now contain the active ingredient. Some of these herbicides include Ortho Groundclear, KleenUP and Aquamaster.
The most common cancer associated with glyphosate exposure is non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. This form of cancer causes the body to develop tumors from a type of white blood cell call lymphocytes. Exposer to Round Up and other chemicals with glyphosate can cause other forms of cancer and illnesses as well. Other cancers and diseases associated with the herbicide include:
- Large B-Cell Lymphoma
- Mantle Cell Lymphoma
- Follicular Lymphoma
- T-Cell Lymphoma
- Leukemia
- Multiple Myeloma
- Lou Gehrig’s Disease
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Parkinson’s Disease
- Liver Disease
- Kidney Disease
Who is at Risk?
The more you are exposed to Round Up, the greater the chances of cancer forming. This means individuals who are exposed to the chemical on a regular basis are at a higher risk. Round Up may have caused your cancer or illness if you worked in any of the following professions:
- Agriculture
- Groundskeeper
- Farmer
- Professional Gardener
- Pesticide and herbicide applicator
- Landscaper
Even if you haven’t worked in these occupations, Round Up could have still contributed to your illness. If you believe the herbicide contributed to your illness, contact an attorney.
PA Product Liability Laws
As consumers, we rely on product manufactures to sell a product that is free from causing harms. Unfortunately, though, this is not always the case. If you believe that exposure to Round Up caused your cancer or illness, you may have the grounds for a product liability lawsuit.
You have a limited amount of time to file a product liability suit. Under Pennsylvania law, you have two years from the date you were diagnosed to file a claim. You could lose your right to do so if you fail to file within two years.
Product liability can fall into three categories. These categories include design defect, manufacturing defect and lack of adequate warning or instructions. If the court finds than any of these errors caused your cancer or illness, then Monsanto could be held liable.
There is no limit to the amount of compensation you can receive in a product liability lawsuit. Some of the damages you can receive compensation for include:
- Medical expenses
- Loss of wages
- Loss of earning potential
- Pain and suffering
No matter how cancer has affected your life, you deserve to be compensated for the damages Round Up exposure has caused. An attorney can ensure that you file a successful product liability claim and receive the compensation you are entitled to.
